Syrphidae (Hoverflies)
Probably the
most popular group of flies, as many are colourful and even
familiar because they visit garden flowers.
There are
several features that aid identification. They have fine hair
rather than bristles on the thorax, they have a spurious vein
along the centre of the forewing and two outer cross-veins near
the wing margin.
