Bombyliidae (Beeflies)

An attractive group of flies with furry bodies and sometimes patterned wings. They are parasites of  solitary bees, wasp and lepidoptera larvae.

Most are scarce although Bombylius major is common even in gardens and Villa modesta is found on most large areas of coastal sand dunes.
